OUR TIPS ON CHANGING QUAD AND SSV RIMS

Before changing your rims for more sophisticated, sturdier or more beautiful aluminum rims than the one you have, it's very important to take into account the characteristics of your quad or SSV.

When it comes to rims, every quad model is different!

Let's start with YAMAHA sport quads:

If you own one of the YAMAHA quads listed above, you should know that these quads are originally fitted with 10-inch front and 9-inch rear rims.

If you'd like to change rims while keeping the original dimensions:

- Here you'll find all 10x5 YAMAHA-compatible front rims.

- Here you'll find all YAMAHA-compatible 9X8 or 9x9 rear rims.

If you want to optimize your quad by changing the wheel diameter, you have 2 options:

fit 8-inch rear rims ( for a cross-country configuration

Here you'll find compatible 8x8 rims

Fitting 8-inch rims at the rear on a sport quad lowers its center of gravity, thus increasing stability when cornering and control of your machine in slippery conditions! This is ideal for cross-country racing.

Fit 10" wheels at the rear (for a road / supercross configuration )

Here you'll find compatible 10x8 rims

Fitting 10" wheels at the rear is ideal for superquaders or road use. It will allow you to mount tires of identical diameter at the front and rear, giving the machine a flat ride. The question of looks for a superquader is an important one, so this is a very pleasant quad to look at! And to ride on the road!

The front wheels should remain 10" wheels in all cases.

Keeping 9-inch rear wheels is recommended for endurance / cross country / sand racing disciplines.

The center distances of these Yamaha quads are 4x156 front, 4x115 rear.

The only exception is the YAMAHA 200 BLASTER which is 4X156 at the front, but 4X100 at the rear!

The rim offsets on these quads are 3.5+1.5 at the front and 3+5 at the rear.

You can easily widen the front tracks by half an inch by fitting 3+2 front rims: your quad will be a little more stable in a straight line and in bends.

To increase this stability, you can also fit wideners in addition to 3+2 rims!

See our full range of wideners here!

Apart from Yamaha, no other rim manufacturer offers a 3.5+1.5 front offset!

We can offer you :

- either 4+1

- or 3+2

The choice is simple:

- if you have a wide front axle like a Laeger's, for example, you'll need to choose a 4+1 offset to keep your steering efficient and not too hard.

For cross-country use, with 3+2 rims and a wide front end, your steering will be heavy and tiring, as the front tracks will be too wide for this type of riding. For superquad use, anything goes! there's no limit...

- if you have an original front axle, choose 3+2 for stability.

Wheel nuts on Yamaha sport quads are 10 x 125 with flat edges.

The rim is generally flat for standard aluminum rims, but for molded aluminum rims such as ITP, the nuts are tapered.

YAMAHA utility wheel centres:

YFM350 and 450 WOLVERINE / YFM400 BIG BEAR / YFM400 and 450 KODIAK / 600 and 700 GRIZZLY

These quads have identical front and rear hole centers: 4X110

Let's continue with sports quads from SUZUKI, KAWASAKI, HONDA and KYMCO :

If you own one of the SUZUKI, KAWASAKI, HONDA and KYMCO sport quads listed above, you should know that these quads are equipped with 10-inch wheels at the front and 9-inch wheels at the rear. The LTR450, on the other hand, is available with 8" rear rims.

If you want to change your rims while keeping the original dimensions :

The OUTLANDER and RENEGADE quads from CAN AM are quite similar :

Our advice!

Upgrade to 4 rims with identical widths and offsets 12X7 inches, offset 4+3 or 5+2! This will increase your quad's motricity and agility.
